Legendary Indawgyi Lake, kachin state, Myanmar မြန်မာ

A third of Myanmar’s people currently live below the poverty line and the majority depend on natural resources for their survival. Fauna and Flora International works with grass-roots organizations in Indawgyi Lake, a UNESCO Biosphere reserve, to address issues of environmental governance and human welfare.

According to legend, the lake was born of a dragon punishing bad people. In this video, the legend unfolds as the backbone of modern-day environmental threat. Shan and Kachin eco-tourism guides take us to villages around the lake and we see the rewards of organic rice paddy farming; retiring elephants from logging, respecting no fishing zones, recycling crafts and other alternative sources of income that are good for the people and environmentally-sound.
