Turning Heads on 2, Shanghai 上海
MALLISSALSA is created by Mallissa Wang, a professional salsa dancer in Shanghai. She is admired for her technique and dancers from around the world wish to perform with her. I created the bi-lingual Chinese and English video campaign for use on WeChat, China’s social mobile platform. And here, I led concept development and I storyboarded, conducted interviews, art directed, shot, designed the supers and edited the videos.
Mallissa is the first Chinese to train tirelessly in New York — with greats like Mambo King Eddie Torres, and Franklin Diaz — to bring salsa’s true New York Style back to Shanghai, dance on 2 (vs. LA style on 1). While open sensuality is natural for Latinas, it is foreign to women in China. Her mission is to empower women to develop their own sense of beauty on the dance floor and define what sexy means in a contemporary China.
